Long Son, Ba Ria Vung Tau – On July 4, 2019 LSP led by Mr. Somchai Wangwattanapanich, Advisor to the President and CEO, SCG and Mr. Pichet Tangpanyarat, General Director, LSP, launched the kickoff event for the Mangrove Planting for Sustainable Environment within LSP’s site, Long Son Commune, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Vietnam. The project consists of the planting of 4,400 mangroves and covers 1.75 hectares and is estimated to complete by 2020. The event drew the attendance of Ba Ria – Vung Tau and Long Son Commune authorities, community members from Long Son, and youth representatives from the Bach Dang Secondary School.
The planting of mangroves is one of the concerted efforts that LSP dedicated to creating a sustainable environment and improving quality of life for the communities within the area. Mangrove forests are an important ecosystem that helps protect shorelines from erosion. The tree roots act as a natural filtration system from various sediments, leading to better water quality. Furthermore, mangroves are excellent at absorbing carbon in the atmosphere for better air quality.
